In this video we explore not just the headline speeds, but the architectural reasons why some Linux systems feel faster than others. Speed is only a measurable consequence — to understand it you have to understand what makes a system fast and how design influences performance.

We’ll start with PorteuX, an extreme case of a live RAM-resident modular Linux that loads everything into memory and eliminates disk I/O after boot. Then we’ll look at Alpine Linux, a minimal base with musl and OpenRC that stays tiny and efficient even with a desktop. After that we’ll explore Void Linux, a traditional UNIX-lean system with runit and a clean, minimal service model. Finally we’ll talk about Gentoo, a source-based distro that can be optimized at the hardware level for ultimate responsiveness.
