Walking Tour In Algiers - The Cervantes Cave In El Hamma
In this video, we're visiting the Cervantes Cave in the upper parts of El Hamma, next to the El Hamma Forest. It's a small park with a monument and a plaque. The cave is still there, but it's locked. This is the area where Spanish writer Miguel de Cervantes hid after his capture in 1575 by Algerian corsairs. He tried to run away multiple times, but each time, he was captured and imprisoned again. In one of his attempts, he sought refuge in this cave. The place is now a park open to the public, but it needs some improvements and cleaning-up. Visitors, in particular, need to avoid littering.
