How to Prevent iPhone duplicates in Home Assistant #shorts
I recently saw a question in the Home Assistant Facebook forums asking how to prevent iPhone duplicates from appearing in Home Assistant. The answer is pretty easy and it involves turning off randomized MAC addresses for your device on your particular Wi-Fi SSID(s). The iPhone by default will change the MAC address presented to the Wi-Fi each time it connects to help curtail advertising tracking across networks by large companies. Since this is your home network, you can easily stop this practice by flipping a switch. The MAC address will then remain constant and Home Assistant will recognize the device as the same one that connected each time. This MAC randomization feature was introduced in iOS 14 so if you haven't upgraded yet, you might not be seeing the behavior yet. I also have a circle parental control device that relies on MAC addresses so I had to enable this setting on each of the iPhones I wished to control for my network.
