We visited one of the oldest mosques in Istanbul — Zeyrek Mosque, also known as Molla Zeyrek Camii — a stunning piece of Islamic and Byzantine history that’s over 900 years old.
Originally a Byzantine monastery, it was converted into a mosque after the Ottoman conquest of Constantinople and named after Molla Zeyrek, a scholar who taught here. It’s now the second-largest byzantine complex in Istanbul after Hagia Sophia and still active today.
We explored the mosque, prayed, and soaked in the peaceful atmosphere. This underrated masjid is a must-visit for Muslim families traveling through Türkiye.
