UPDATE: The limit of the SSD case is 4TB (not 4GB).
I had a water damaged laptop available to me which happens to have Windows 11 preinstalled on the internal SSD: A perfect way to demonstrate how you can run Windows (11) without having to touch nor hurt your internal Steam OS system. And since microSD cards are not meant for the wear and tear of operating systems, an SSD is a good way to go.
Let me show you how I went about it, what you should watch out for if you want to do something similar and some game demos running Xbox GamePass.
