This was a rare opportunity. I spotted a very nice gag grouper who was avoiding my buddy but didn't pay me much attention. Seeing him duck into a gap between the ledge and a collapsed block, I realised where he was likely to go. I aimed at that spot and he appeared. The shot was not one that stoned the fish, but went through the gill plate, giving a solid connection. That allowed the fish to be securely strung and dispatched.
Making my way back to the ascent line, I ran into a group of fat lionfish I had seen earlier and picked out the biggest one for ceviche. He gets a haircut on the way up to protect the crew on the boat from the venomous hard rays.
