El Salvador has been battling gangs for decades. The Mara Salvatrucha and 18th Street gangs are known worldwide for their brutality. El Salvador, a country of 6.5 million, has approximately 100,000 gang members.
The gang has a history spanning nearly 30 years. They live by their own culture and established rules.
Bukele, elected President in 2019, commissioned the construction of Cecot, Latin America's largest prison, to combat gangs. In this episode of his series, we briefly discuss the Mara Salvatrucha gang, the world's most brutal gang.
