Determine support forces [Engineering Mechanics] |StudyHelp
In this video, we calculate the support reaction of a fixed-and-loosely supported rigid beam with a horizontally acting force and a vertically acting force.
As always, our procedure is: 1) Establish a free section and 2) Establish equilibrium conditions.
We can then rearrange the established equations according to the desired support reactions and calculate them.
Tip: When establishing the moment equilibrium, you should choose a pivot point through which as many forces as possible pass; then they won't appear in the equilibrium condition. Why? It's simple: The lever arm is then 0!
