Mallard (Anas platyrhynchos) HD 1080p
The Mallard duck is abundant and widespread in North America but a rare migrant to Hawai`i. The male has an iridescent green head, chestnut breast, and a grayish body. A conspicuous white neck ring can be seen at the base of the neck. The female is plain by comparison and looks like the native Koloa maoli or Hawaiian Duck. Both the male and the female have a blue or purple speculum bordered in white. Legs of both sexes are orange. The Mallard is known as a puddle duck. It will feed in almost any small patch of water. A variety of domestic Mallard breeds have been imported to the Islands. These hybridized farm ducks are widespread and frequently hybridize with the endangered Koloa maoli.
