Replacing a mechanical steering rack with a hydraulic one on a Lanos 1.5, October 2006.
All parts were used – the rack, power steering pump, oil reservoir, and the lines from the pump to the rack. One liter of EVO Original Dexron III ATF DIII oil.
After installing the rack and pump, everything worked right away, but as soon as the car started warming up, the pump stopped working. It only worked at higher engine speeds. I was about to replace it with a new pump, but after the car cooled down, the pump worked even better. I think the petals in the pump were jammed. After the oil had been inside the pump, the petals became saturated with oil, and everything worked again. ________________________________________
