Looking to build your first hi-fi system? Are you a beginner and not quite sure where to start? That’s ok, building your first sound system can be quite a daunting task. Especially if you’re not familiar with the different hi-fi units available to you.

The main advantages of a hi-fi setup is that it’s built using individual units, or ‘separates’ so you can pick and choose what makes up your system. Not only that but each separate unit focus’ on one specific task when reproducing your music, giving you a much better-sounding result. When you’re ready to start building your system, there are three things you’ll need to think about:

Sources – Think about how you listen to your music. If you stream music using Spotify for example, it’s worth thinking about a network player. If you’re a keen vinyl collector, consider a record player.

Amplifiers – The amps job is to power your music and where you can control the volume. You’ll definitely need one of these and there are different types to be aware of, but we’ll cover this in another video.

Speakers – This is the last stage in audio reproduction and where you hear your music. Think about your room size before investing in a pair. You don’t need a huge pair for room-filling sound.

Cables – Lastly, you’ll need the right cables to connect everything up.
