Yingde City is 150 km from Guangzhou, the capital of Guangdong Province, China. Besides being known as a tea plantation area, Yingde City is also known as a village for overseas Chinese. "Guiqiao" is the name for overseas Chinese who returned to China in the 1960s. More than 2,000 Indonesian Guiqiao settled here, most of whom were born in Java and Aceh. They returned to China for various reasons.
Upon returning to China, they never forgot Indonesia, maintaining Indonesian traditions in their daily lives, and even passing down Indonesian arts and culture to their children and grandchildren. The Yingde Dance Studio is one example of this Indonesian cultural heritage in the area. The Yingde Dance Studio includes not only the first generation of Guiqiao (the name for overseas Chinese who returned to China), but also the second and third generations. The Yingde Dance Studio is frequently invited to perform at various events held by the Indonesian Embassy in China, and has even been invited to perform in Russia.
