Atlantida. Manuel de Falla, Ernesto Halffter. Pamplona Chamber Choir
Atlantis was intended to be a masterpiece, not only for Manuel de Falla but for the history of 20th-century music. Its prologue, a marvel of musical plasticity, sets the course for what it was destined to become, to the point that conductor Ernest Ansermet described it as “the most beautiful progression of chords in all of contemporary music.”
The Pamplona Chamber Choir, directed by David Gálvez, presents the stage cantata in a chamber music version, based on Ernesto Halffter’s so-called Lucerne version (1976) but with added sections from Falla’s original score that lend it a greater theatrical dimension.
This chamber version, co-produced by the Choir and the University of Navarra Museum, premiered on March 5 at the MUN theater.
