Layering is a simple technique used in almost everything we do when we paint. By expanding on some of the different ways we can layer over a basecoat and a shade, it's possible to get a number of different results that work no matter which colours you're using or whatever miniature you happen to be painting. While it can be a little more time consuming than a drybrush and shade or a quick shade and highlight, the results are very smooth and easy to replicate on your own miniatures. Using the 'right colour' shade or wash for certain areas on your miniature can make a huge difference to how they turn out when finished. This also happens to be the 30th How I Paint Things video!
