Consider who is telling your story, it could do great things for how you consider perspective when taking on a character.
When you consider your basic assumption of a character, you’ll become aware of the decisions you’ve already made about him or her. It could mean that you’ll see how right you were and give yourself a confidence boost, or it could give you another way to go with your character that you had not yet considered.
Ask yourself these questions:
When is your story happening? Did it happen a while ago? Is it happening now, or will it happen in the future? From what tense is your character telling the story?
When considering the point of view, there are only three options:
First-person (I), - Second-person (you), - Third-person (he/she/it).
Why are you telling a story, and who are you telling it to?
Give your character confidence.
Take center stage and express your characters’ thoughts.
