We went to tileyard studios with Brad Ellis (Producer / DJ The Nextmen), Nicolaj Bjerre (Drummer / Producer -- Lamb / Ian Siegler) and drum student Luis Arango Abello.

After producing numerous albums and projects, including a vast quantity of library content for television production projects, they showed us some insiders tips on how to record and produce drums, and why they use Focusrite to capture the best audio.

Recap:
1. A super cardioid mic capsule can help you isolate hats to minimise bleed from other
drums

2. Two Ambient room mics at different distances offer you more option to add in the
acoustics of the room

3. A rewired sub woofer adds a low subby tone to the kick

4. A mono overhead microphone can give you a more direct and punchy result

5. A reliable and transparent preamp will not colour the signal and compromise the
session

6. By heavily compressing the ambient mics with the Octopre MKII and adding optional
distortion you can add more weight to the recording

7. Adding compression to the kick and snare on the way in results in a healthy
and warm tone
