ASF Loves Tomcat and JavaEE: From Meecrowave to TomEE - Romain Manni-Bucau, Blue Jeen
Tomcat is the most used Java server today but it is mainly centered on the HTTP* layer. To write a complete application, most people will add diverse libraries like Spring Framework, Weld or others. However the Apache Software Foundation is building great ready-to-run servers. This talk will present two of them: Apache Meecrowave and Apache TomEE. From the very small flexible one to the full blown solution! Both integrations start from the same basics but end in quite different experiences matching most of usages at all stages of the relationship with the server: development, testing and deployment. The first part of the talk will be about Apache TomEE and how it integrates Tomcat with "Apache EE" stack. Then, the second part will show how Apache Meecrowave extracted the best without the worst from it. Finally, the last part will show how Tomcat stays a crucial part of both integrations.
