A bimini top is an open-fronted canopy for a boat's cockpit, typically supported by a metal frame. Most biminis can be folded down when not in use and raised when shade or rain cover is needed.
Bimini tops differ from dodgers in that dodgers have protection at the front and sides, while biminis do not. A bimini top is used primarily as a sunshade; it does not provide protection from wind, rain, or spray when moving forward at any speed. A bimini top only provides rain protection when the boat is stationary and there is no wind. It can also be customized to suit different types of boats and comes in a variety of colors.
