I had another version of this posted some time ago (called "Choro Triste") but i hadn't got it quite right so I removed it and re-did it here. There were basic rhythmic ideas that were wrong. Once I had heard Garoto himself playing it as well as Paulo Bellinati I corrected those parts and here it is.
Thing is, this piece is a real hand-torturer. Though this take isn't perfect, I kind of just want to be done with it for a while and let my poor left thumb rest.
I learned this from a book called "The Complete Laurindo Almeida Anthology of Guitar Solos" where it's called "Choro Triste". In print and available from Mel Bay. A very very nice resource.
It is also available in Paulo Bellinati's transcription through gspguitar dot com.
Just as an aside the version by Garoto I heard is available on itunes and features him playing electric guitar (!) or it may be that he's got a pickup on his regular guitar and is playing through a little amp. Pretty strange and different sounding for this style of music.
