Hell and Demonology in Culture - A Lecture by Boris Yakemenko
We, of course, know what hell is: the devil's kingdom and the place where sinners go after death. The concept of hell, and its meticulous depiction, has been a crucial element of world culture for hundreds of years, a source of inspiration for writers, poets, and artists. Today, the image of hell is often used as a tool of influence, as an image not only in artistic but also in political culture.
So, what is hell? How is it represented in Christianity? What happens to a person when they go there, and is it possible to escape? Who inhabits it? We attempted to answer these and other questions during the lecture.
