Create a Surreal Solarization Effect in Photoshop
Surrealism is an art movement that explores the unconscious mind, dreams and irrational juxtapositions in imagery. The 100th anniversary of the Surrealist Manifesto was in October 2024.
One type of surrealist, photographic art is Solarization; an effect in which tones (darks and lights) in an image are reversed.
In this Part I video I demonstrate, step x step, how to produce both color and black and white surreal, solarized looks from "straight" full-color photographs. I also show two different methods for how to create color photographic solarizations (one filter-based, one curves-based). These effects can be used by photographers, designers and digital artists and are quite simple and fast to use.
I'll create a separate Part II video to explain how to create other types of more intermediate surreal effects in Photoshop (without having to use special or expensive plugins).
