Calendars and Chronology: Astronomical Principles of Timekeeping
Astronomy may seem like a science far removed from practical applications. But the history of astronomy suggests otherwise: since the dawn of knowledge about celestial objects and phenomena, it has solved vital problems. Every day, we use a tool without which our civilization would not exist. We will discuss the astronomical foundations of calendar construction and recall the complex history of their evolution in various cultures. We will also answer the question of what methods of timekeeping astronomers themselves use.
