Creating a username in Telegram is a great way to make your account easier to find and contact—without sharing your phone number. This feature is especially useful if you're connecting with people in public groups, forums, or communities where you'd rather keep your phone number private. Your Telegram username acts like a unique ID, and once it’s set, people can find you by searching that name or visiting your t.me/username link.
To add or change your Telegram username, follow these quick steps. First, launch the Telegram app and make sure you're logged in to your account. Tap the three-line menu icon (☰) located at the top-left corner of the screen to open the sidebar. From there, select "Settings."
In the Settings menu, look for the field labeled "Username" and tap on it. If you haven’t set a username before, you’ll see an empty input box where you can type in your desired username. If you already have one, it will be displayed here, and you can change it if you wish. Usernames must be unique and consist of at least five characters using letters, numbers, or underscores.
After typing your preferred username, Telegram will automatically check if it’s available. If the username is taken, try modifying it slightly or choosing an alternative. Once you find one that’s available, tap the checkmark or arrow icon in the top-right corner to save your new username.
Your username will now be active, and anyone can find you using it without needing your phone number. You can also share your direct profile link using t.me/yourusername for easier access.
