The Ong Hat is one of the earliest conspiracy theories to emerge after the creation of the internet. It has been dismissed as a tale or a hoax, but even today some people believe it could be real.
The existing documentation on this mystery has no single author; it is scattered across old faxes, BBS networks, images on websites, documents from rogue scientists who knew the secret, and so on. It appeared on the radio at the time, and documents were photocopied and distributed widely. In 1978, a man named Wali Ford bought 200 acres of wooded land to build a retreat where he and his friends could escape to a place called the Pine Barrens. He called the retreat Ashram, a spiritual place where they could conduct experiments away from the critical eye of the world.
His friends were a group of professors from Princeton University who met there in secret to conduct quantum physics experiments combined with chaos theory to discover a method of dimensional travel.
