Refik Anadol is a pioneering artist and director known for his innovative use of data and machine intelligence in creating immersive and dynamic visual experiences. His work often explores the intersection of art, technology, and architecture, transforming data into abstract, yet deeply emotive visual narratives.
His latest experience, "Inner Portrait," which formed part of Art Basel was born out of Refik's exploration of the concept of portraiture in the age of machine intelligence. Collaborating with Turkish Airlines, he worked closely with four individuals who had never traveled before, bringing them to their dream destinations. By collecting real-time brain and biosignals, Anadol transformed these data points into unique AI Data Sculptures. Each sculpture captured the participants' emotions, goosebumps, and feelings, infusing every movement, color, pattern, and texture with their lived experiences. The result was a powerful and deeply personal exploration of human emotion through the lens of advanced technology.
