The 2024 Freestyle Chess G.O.A.T. Challenge is an over-the-board Chess960 classical tournament with some of the top players in the world. The event starts on February 9 at 7 a.m. ET/13:00 CET and features a $200,000 prize fund.

The Freestyle Chess G.O.A.T. Challenge starts with the Rapid event on February 9 at 7 a.m. ET/13:00 CET/5.30pm IST, while the main event starts on February 11 at the same time.
The Freestyle Chess G.O.A.T. Challenge consists of a rapid and a main event, both in the Chess960 variant. The rapid event determines the pairings for the main event.
Rapid Event
Single round-robin
The time control is 25+10
Main Event
Single-elimination bracket
The time control is 90 minutes for the first 40 moves, followed by 30 minutes for the rest of the game. There's a 30-second increment per move after move 40
Main Event Tiebreaks
If a match ends in a tie, the following tiebreaks, in order, decide the winner:
Two 15+10 rapid games
Two 5+2 blitz games
5+2 blitz games until there's a winner
The event features a $200,000 prize pool, distributed as follows:
1st: $60,000
2nd: $40,000
3rd: $30,000
4th: $20,000
5th: $15,000
6th: $12,000
7th: $10,000
8th: $8,000
Location
The event will happen at the Weissenhaus Private Nature Luxury Resort, a five-star resort just one hour outside Hamburg, Germany.
