Some M2TW players, especially those most familiar with the original Rome Total War, lament that M2TW's cavalry are "slow" and "difficult to use in charges". Some even say that cavalry are "bugged". While the game isn't perfect by any means and sometimes charges are affected by pathfinding errors, cavalry charges in M2TW are dependable and effective once you understand the core mechanics.

In this video, I demonstrate that the key to executing an effective cavalry charge in M2TW is to choose a stationary target and keep your cavalry in a close formation at least 50 to 60 meters away from the target before issuing a single, methodical, decisive order to charge. All it takes is a bit of planning and a simple right-click — the unit will take care of the rest. There's no need to "panic click" like in the original Rome, which is slightly more arcadey in comparison.

This gives the cavalry unit time to prepare, stay in formation on approach, and generate enough momentum to deliver a devastating charge that can decide the course of an entire battle.

For the sake of simplicity, remember that distance + momentum = dead peasant.

I hope some people find this video helpful and informative!
