Abstract: Many quantum algorithms depend upon a specific initial quantum state that needs to be prepared before the algorithm can perform its computation. Preparing the state corresponding to the initial data is in general an exponential problem that is often omitted from application performance analysis. However, if initialization be difficult, quantum advantages may not be viable. To avoid this complexity, we have developed two techniques for generating quantum circuits that can prepare certain families of quantum states efficiently.
