Testing the BMW M Laptimer app with a M2 Competition on Estoril
The BMW M Laptimer app for iOS can be used as an alternative to traditional laptimers or to the available mobile apps. It's using the vehicle sensors for telemetry and videos can be recorded using the iOS device. Read more about my findings on a 2018 F87 M2 Competition below.

The BMW M Laptimer needs to be installed on a supported iOS device and can start recording the sessions from the iDrive. The lap data will be available on the iDrive and additional telemetry and recorded video can be viewed on the mobile app.
Unfortunately there is no straight forward way to export the lap video with telemetry overlay so I used the screen recording feature for the video uploaded here. I used an iPhone 6S.
In terms of accuracy I tested it in parallel with TrackAddict Android app on a Samsung Galaxy S10 device. My experience is that most of the laps had quite similar timings but I also had a few with ~2 seconds difference (but this can also be caused by errors in the Android GPS signal, as I'm tempted to trust more the M Laptimer app since it's using the vehicle sensors).
