I think I've made some progress with a homemade crucible for melting non-ferrous metals. Specifically, copper, brass, bronze, and others. The crucible is made from crushed fireclay brick and white clay. I've calcined it six times: five in a muffle furnace and once in a gas forge using an injection torch.
