On March 13, 2019, Spotify announced that it filed an antitrust complaint against Apple with the European Commission over unfair Apple App Store practices. Spotify's argument: Apple is in a unique position to favor it's own services as it both controls the platform as well as competing services on the platform. While this situation is still unfolding, Spotify's claim has some merit and could lead to trouble for Apple as it attempts to diversify its product mix aware from iPhone sales. Not only that, but this particular complaint has even bigger implications for the other major tech companies who, like Apple, control the platform they attempt to compete on.
