The Pippi Longstocking team is tackling another great children's book classic: "The Little Witch" has been one of the most popular children's books in this country for generations. Composer Franz Wittenbrink captures the title character's quest to become a good witch in captivating and touching tones – complete with market bustle, a forest animal choir, and, of course, Walpurgis Night! Also on hand: the children's choir of the Komische Oper Berlin.
The little witch isn't actually little – but she's young! She's just 127 years old, making it far too young to ride up the Blocksberg with the great witches on Walpurgis Night. But that's the biggest event of the witch's year! Although Abraxas the raven has warned her, she simply can't help but sneak into the witches' fray. If only it weren't for the evil Aunt Rumpumpel, who doesn't grant the little witch any favors and rats her out to the head witch. As punishment, the witch takes the little witch's broom away, but also tells her that if she's become good by next year, she can come with her to Walpurgis Night. Together with her children Vroni and Thomas—and, of course, the raven Abraxas!—the little witch does everything she can to become a good witch. But what exactly is a "good" witch?
