IBM Launches Blockchain Plate form on Cloud Service, in Melbourne data centre, Australia, as reported by news outlet ZDNet on Feb11, 2019.

The IBM Plate form is built on open source Hyperledger Fabric. Hyperledger is a project that aims to improve cross-industry blockchain technologies hosted by Linux Foundation.

What this plate form offers?

First, it intended to allow the customers to run their own applications on connecting to company’ cloud.

Second, with establishment of physical infrastructure in the country, IBM data center will store customer data in Australia, customer data will not cross the border.

Besides this, it would provide enhanced security for highly regulated applications in government and financial services.

Rupert Colchester, the head of blockchain for IBM in Australia & New Zealand, said Blockchain is “pretty much active” across all industries in Australia. He believes that the Australian market has great potential for blockchain solutions especially in field of supply chain.

On Jan 31, IBM completed blockchain-based trial in which it shipped 108,000 mandarin oranges from China to Singapore. The technology reduced paperwork handling and costs for the shipment.

Indeed, IBM plate form leverages the blockchain technology to track the product across the shipping of supply chain mechanism, right from origin of the product from a farm to its final delivery to retailers to prove the providence.

IBM has been actively expanding its use of blockchain technology. IBM will also launch second data center in Sydney that join the other centers in Tokyo, London, Dallas, Sao Paulo & Toronto.
