(OBSOLETE) My rubber dome keyboards compilation!
As promised, here is a compilation of my rubber dome keyboards!
Maxi Switch 101 & MaxiPro II: Built well, nice keycaps, but the domes in the 101 feel much better than the ones in the MaxiPro. The 101 domes feel more tactile and have basically no mush while the MaxiPro ones feel less tactile and more mushy, plus a little stiffer. I love the functionality of the MaxiPro. (Same thing as an anykey.) MX compatible minus the stabilizer keys.
Epson Q203: Peerless switches are just...weird. They're not terrible, just weird. They're wildly inconsistent, as some keys register high up and some register all the way at the bottom. Nice keycaps and build quality though.
Key Tronics: Probably some of the best feeling plain rubber out there. Thocky sound, no mush. Easy and usually cheap to get ahold of. Unfortunately the build quality of these boards suffers a little bit. For the first one I swapped out a dome mat from an E03633 that was falling apart because it felt quite snappy and satisfying. The 2nd one has the standard domes which are decent, but not as satisfying as the other one.
Quietkey: The black ones of these only come in NMB dome with slider as all the black Quietkeys were made by NMB. (Unlike many of the beige ones which were made by Silitek, some were also NMB made.) These ones feel decent, but probably have the worst sound of all the ones I have. They are very smooth and light to use. Build quality of these boards are meh, but the other NMB boards are all much better built.
5139: These have a very nice and full sound and probably the most tactile domes I know of. They're also not mushy and use a PCB instead of a membrane, so these are very durable. MX compatible minus the stabilizer keys.
6511-H. More non mushy domes, but these bottom out rather hard and have a very mechanical feel to them. They are similar to BTC but not as tactile. They're alright, but not particularly my favorite. The emerald green color and alps mount keycaps are a bonus though. (The later winkey ones have integrated mount and are not dome with slider.)
KFKEB9HY: Decent standard rubber dome board. Keys are lubed which makes them a little smoother and quieter. The Dolch colorway is nice, but the board is very light and built rather mid.
Realforce R2: Obviously the most expensive rubber domes on the planet but these are pretty nice. The APC is super nice for gaming, and the one button toggle is super useful and easy, and it's my favorite board to game with currently. I'd have to say that maxi switch domes (in the 101) are the most similar to topre although a little stiffer.
