The introduction has been pushed back five to six months to mid-2024 due to complex software coding for the vehicle's LiDAR system. Volvo engineers are currently working on integrating this safety technology into the EX90's new SPA2 platform. The LiDAR system, supplied by Luminar Technologies, significantly contributes to the vehicle's safety, detecting pedestrians even at highway speeds. Notably, Volvo has chosen to include this costly feature as standard, setting the EX90 apart in the industry. The vehicle will be first manufactured at Volvo's plant in Ridgeville, South Carolina.
