How is data stored?

In the last short, we talked about how physically large all the data is in the world, but there was one oversimplification that's worth expanding on - how many electrons are stored per bit of information? And how are they stored and read? It's a complicated topic, and squeezing it into a 60s short still oversimplifies things a lot, but to set the record straight... we may have been off by a couple orders of magnitude in that last video.
