Get to Know Me a Bit Better!
#Shorts It's been a long time, and there are so many new faces here that I thought it was a good time to properly reintroduce myself and share my sewing journey with you.
I learned to sew in home economics class at 14. I loved it so much that the next Christmas 'Santa' gave me my very own sewing machine!
There was no other path for me except to study fashion design and then I went on to work in the couture bridal industry for many years but eventually I quit my day job to pursue my own business.
I specialised in custom evening/bridal wear and vintage recreations and restorations, which I just loved! Along with custom client work, I ran a vintage reproduction fashion label that even got featured in a period TV show!
I pivoted my business to teaching when I realised (long story short) that the world did not need another fashion label, sustainable or not, it needed the skills of being able to custom make and sew your own clothes to live on.
I saw a huge gap in the home sewing world where students would come to me because they wanted to learn how to create their own custom clothes, not just copy a pattern from a packet for it to not fit right after all that effort and struggle to sew it up.
And I knew this was my gift, what I could give to the world.
It's my goal to help you become the amazing sewist you want to be, and have a lot of fun along the way! Learning to sew can be hard especially if you’ve no one to show you how or to ogle with you over your latest fabric acquisition!
I want to fill that gap for you by showing you everything I've learned over my life of sewing as well as create an amazing online community of sewing friends here, all helping each other.
I think of sewing as a craft and an art.
It is meant to give you the ability to customise designs and patterns to be just how you want, choose the construction techniques you want to use and most importantly make clothes that fit you. That was my dream when I started sewing and that is my dream for you! This is the kind of content you will find here 🙂
