Microsoft Excel Tutorial: Charting Duel: Excel Is Fun vs MrExcel.com! Who Will Win?
Welcome to another dueling Excel podcast! In this episode, Mike "Excel Is Fun" Girvin and I, Bill Jelen from MrExcel.com, will be showing you some cool charting tricks. But before we get started, I want to give a shout out to Joe from the Garvey Nut and Candy Company. Joe introduced me to Mike's YouTube channel and I have to say, I was blown away by his enthusiasm and the hundreds of videos he has created for his students. This got my competitive spirit going and I challenged Mike to a charting duel. So, let's see who comes out on top!
In this podcast, we will be comparing the number of Excel videos that Mike and I have created. I have my own podcast, "Learn Excel from MrExcel", with over 1150 videos, as well as other products such as live lessons and training DVDs. Mike, on the other hand, has over 600 videos on his YouTube channel, in addition to the videos he creates for his college classes. We will be using these two data sets to create charts and see who has the upper hand in terms of video count.
Mike will be using a horizontal bar chart to compare our video counts, while I will be using a stacked column chart to show the different categories of videos we have created. However, as I started to think about our competition, I realized that it's not just about the total number of videos, but also about the velocity and acceleration of our video production. So, I created a new chart that shows the number of videos produced month by month, and it's clear that Mike is on a fast trend-line to surpass me in the near future.
But don't worry, I'm not giving up my lead just yet. I added trend-lines to our charts and it looks like I still have a few more months before Mike catches up. However, this just goes to show that in the world of Excel, there is always room for improvement and someone else who is just as passionate and dedicated as you are. So, let's keep creating those Excel videos and helping others learn and improve their skills.
