A fish that swims with its mouth open
Live tuna should never be purchased. Despite being one of the most dangerous fish in the ocean, tuna dies as soon as they reach shore. If they ever stop swimming, they die instantly, even at sea.
This is because tuna's breathing method is known as "ram ventilation," which requires them to constantly move to force water through their gills and provide them with oxygen. They simply can't afford to stop. This happens even while they sleep.
Because of this, tuna must be processed and frozen immediately after being harvested and brought to shore.
