Pheasant... or how to set a hen on eggs

Female pheasants are rather poor "mothers" and are extremely poor at hatching eggs. Experience shows that out of 50 eggs laid, no more than 10-15 pheasant chicks can actually hatch in a season. On farms, the eggs are either set in an incubator, or if that's not possible, they are "placed" with more conscientious mothers—in our case, a hen. In my experience, I've never seen a single case of pheasant chicks hatching with hens—either in an incubator or by using a hen. 😉
