Iran Attack On Israel Imminent? US Intelligence Issues Big Warning
Iran or its proxies are "increasingly likely" to launch an attack on Israel in the upcoming days, the White House warned, citing intelligence. The potential attack could "happen as soon as this week," spokesperson John F Kirby announced. The warning comes despite the Israeli military's reported "peak readiness" in anticipation of a retaliatory attack.
The Middle East is on high alert after Iran pledged to retaliate against Israel for two recent strikes. On July 31, Israel assassinated Hamas leader Ismael Haniyeh in Tehran, followed by an airstrike on Hezbollah's senior commander, Fuad Shukr, in Lebanon.
According to Iranian state television, Israel's critical military installations have been targeted by the terrorist Lebanese organization Hezbollah. The strike occurs as top members of the Lebanese armed group Hezbollah and Hamas were killed, placing Israel on high alert for an attack by Iran and its proxies. Last month, Iran made a threat that Israel will pay a price for the killings of Hezbollah military leader Fuad Shukr and Palestinian Hamas political wing chief Ismail Haniyeh.

Iran has rejected a demand from three European countries to refrain from any retaliatory actions that would exacerbate regional tensions. Iran describes it as a "excessive request." In a joint statement issued Monday, the leaders of Britain, France, and Germany urged Iran and its allies not to retaliate over the execution of Hamas senior leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran last month. Iran has blamed Israel. The European leaders also supported the recent efforts by mediators Qatar, Egypt, and the United States to reach a compromise to end the Israel-Hamas conflict.
