The plot begins just a couple of days before the mercenary Scar appears on Cordon. Randomly, the Protagonist falls into the hands of a little thing that turns his whole leisurely life on Cordon in the village of Beginners. The protagonist makes a deal with Sidorovich, according to which he is looking for a way to the Center of the Zone, bypassing the brain burner, and if the way is found, then Sidorovich will be the first to get this route, which will make him the richest merchant in the Zone. In turn, this will allow the Protagonist himself to enrich himself, since no one has canceled the Klondike of Artifacts. Sidorovich helps the Protagonist prepare for the raid.
