Range, Performance, Batteries, Price – Nothing Adds Up!
After Tesla's Model S Plaid delivery event. When you compare the specifications of the new Model S batteries, to the previous versions, this is an absolute jump in technology. As far as I can tell, the thing that explains it the most, must be the use of 4680 batteries. For the Model S Long Range, and Model S Plaid.
I will get all the data I could gather and estimate the Model S Plaid and Long Range specifications in order to compare them with other battery packs in a relative way. What features make the Model S stand out? What sets the Model S Long-Range apart from Plaid in terms of battery weight? What about in terms of price?
In this video, I will give you a glimpse of the chemistry of the battery versions and give you the ratio between weight and capacity. Some people think that Tesla has changed their chemistry with the 18650 Batteries making it that much more efficient. However, if this is the case, then why do they need a different battery pack if using the same size batteries?
Considering that it's hard to work over the 4680 Batteries, then why would they want to invest time, money, energy, as well as research and development sacrificing other opportunities to work on their oldest battery form if they won't launch the 4680 battery?
