Units of Measure:
Windows - Settings / Preferences - Preferences - Settings - Working Units
Choose unit of choice (metric or imperial)
channel box / grid - 1 Maya unit = 1 unit of choice
Measuring Tools:
Create - Measure Tools - Distance Tool
Hold down V with click to snap to vertex
Hold down Shift to create a straight measurement from one end of object to another
Group object with Locators to have the measurements change as you resize
Sub-Group Locators and turn off visibility (H) when not needed.
