My Book! PLUS: Why You Should Start a Personal Photography Project
The best way to shake off the creative blues is to give yourself a photography project. The structure of a project gives you reason and impetus to shoot, and inspiration will take over from there. I decided to take my own advice and recently began work on a project I've been contemplating for years: a coffee-table book about the incredible landscapes of Mono Lake.

The Mono Basin is one of the world’s most incredible and varied landscapes. In an area roughly the same size as the city of Chicago, here you will find bizarre rock formations, active volcanic fumaroles, snow-capped mountains, sand dunes, wild horses, and a lake three times saltier than the ocean.
It’s a place of breathtaking beauty, full of bizarre and wonderful secrets. I’ve lived 30 minutes from this basin since 2015 and have barely scratched the surface of what’s there.
Although the project is still in its infancy and I haven’t decided on an overall theme, in the work I plan to explore the different landscapes of the Mono Basin, and how those ecosystems shape, and are shaped by, the animals and plants living with, including humans!
The cat is out of the bag, no turning back meow!
