Take care of your smallest visitors with these cute mini Cheerio donuts.
INGREDIENTS & UTENSILS
• Cheerios cereal
• milk chocolate, melted
• Morrisons hundreds & thousands
• Silver Spoon icing sugar
• chopsticks
• small match box, empty
• small piece of tissue paper
• small piece of cardboard
• craft knife or scissors
• Blu-tack
• sieve
METHOD
1. Melt a handful of milk chocolate chunks in the microwave, stirring every 30 seconds to create a smooth texture.
2. Using the tip of a chopstick, prong a Cheerio through the centre. Make sure it’s secure, as you need to dip half the Cheerio in the chocolate without it falling into the bowl. Repeat process with another two Cheerios.
3. Carefully place the Cheerios on a plate and delicately sprinkle hundreds & thousands over them, leave to set.
4. Dip another three Cheerios in the milk chocolate, and leave them to set.
5. Heap one tablespoon of icing sugar onto a small plate. Using the same method as above, dip three plain Cheerios in the icing sugar. If you want a smooth, glossy glaze, mix a tablespoon of water with the icing to form a paste that will set a bit like the chocolate – it sticks to the Cheerio better too.
6. While you wait for all the donuts to set, work on your miniature donut tray. Line the empty matchbox with a folded piece of tissue paper (or festive patterned wrapping paper).
7. Carefully place all the donuts inside the mini tray in rows of three.
8. When the kids have gone to bed, for an extra bit of fun, you could create elf footprints leading up to the tray of donuts to convince the kids that elves have visited in the night. Draw four mini footprints on a piece of card, cut out using scissors or a craft knife.
9. Secure a tiny blob of Blu-tack on each one. Place the four footprints near the box of elf donuts, spread out to look like two sets of footprints approaching.
10. Use a sieve to dust a thick layer of icing sugar over the area leading up to the box, covering the bits of card completely.
11. Press your index finger on the Blu-tack to pick up each of the bits of card one-by-one so that a foot impression is left in the icing ‘snow’. Nibble one or two of the donuts (or finish the tray) so it looks like you’ve definitely had visitors in the night.
