AWA MagicTape machine ca 1951
So I eventually got around to fixing this old lump. It's working pretty well now, though there's a rubber wheel in there that has a flat spot on it. I needed to replace a microphonic tube and the wax capacitors. This seems to have been made before audio tape was standardised because it runs the tape from right to left and the heads are on the outside. I put a twist in the tape to compensate. Running speed is fixed to 7 1/2 IPS. There's a power choke in there dated 1951, so that's a rough date of manufacture.
