This podcast explains details between a conventional spectrum analyzer (SPA) and a real-time spectrum analyzer (RTSA). This is shown on the Field Master Pro MS2090A which hosts both functions on the same chassis. With no gaps in signal captures, the RTSA offers the possibility to see, within a given frequency span, transient and intermittent signals that are not displayed by the SPA. These signals can be seen as random and sporadic in the band. This shows that the SPA cannot display all measurements real-time. The screens shots shown explain the density spectrum color view and persistence display. The strength of the RTSA can be seen in the embedded Field Master Pro MS2090A video: W-LAN and Bluetooth Carrier in the 2.4 GHz band.
