Tunis, 1942. Nour and Myriam, 16, have been friends since childhood. They share the same house in a modest neighborhood where Jews and Muslims live in harmony. Each secretly desires to live the other's life: while Nour regrets not going to school like her friend, Myriam dreams of love. She envies Nour's engagement to her cousin Khaled, a sort of shared Prince Charming fantasy. Unfortunately, Khaled cannot find work. The engagement drags on, and the prospect of a physical union fades.
In November 1942, the German army enters Tunis. Continuing Vichy's policies, the Nazis subjected the Jewish community to heavy fines. Myriam's mother, Tita, was no longer allowed to work and, riddled with debt, decided to marry her daughter off to a wealthy doctor. Myriam suddenly saw her dreams of love vanish...
