Lips are a complex shape on the human face. The large number of smooth curves is difficult to draw in perspective, so it's easier to construct their geometry from the rough edges. Learn to construct the shape of the lips, not just trace the curves.

What to do if the shape of Antinous' lips "floats" and looks unnatural. Lips are difficult to measure with a pencil from life: the height differences along the central axis are too small. Fortunately, there's an excellent way to accurately predict their contours. If you look at Antinous's profile from the side, you'll notice that the relief of the lips "jumps" to the left and right of the facial axis drawn from the base of the nose to the chin (red line). As we turn the plaster head of Antinous toward us, this relief becomes less and less discernible, but it always remains. The secret is to maintain this height difference relative to the red axis in the drawing.

Here we examine the specific features of academic lip drawing for admission to an architectural university.
